Guitar Moderne Festival XXVIII and Test

The season of festivals has begun. For those who are short of cash and/or hate crowds comes the latest virtual Guitar Moderne  Fesival. From the land of Raoul Bjorkenheim and Jimi Sumen comes a recent discovery for me, Finnish guitarist Kalle Kalima, along with stalwarts Ava Menzoza, David Torn, and Tim Brady.

Also, trying to discover if you are getting email notices of posts, so please reply or comment. Thanks.

  1. I’m a big fan of Kalle Kalima and have heard him play in a number of surprisingly different contexts.

Last time was with the German actor Charly Hübner singing songs by Franz Schubert (Winterreise) and Nick Cave arranged for jazz trio and string ensemble. I thought beforehand how can this possibly work? But it was a triumph, with the musicians getting a standing ovation at the end.

I really like the band KUU! with Kalima, Christian Lillinger, Frank Möbus and Jelena Kuljić.
