Spotlight: Tim Brady Part I

In February of 2019, I was flown up to Montreal to cover composer/guitarist Tim Brady’s evening of 150 guitars for Guitar Player. You can read my coverage and interview about that here and see a sample below. Inspired by my conversation with Dither’s James Moore, after we finished Tim’s GP interview, I restarted the recorder for a wide ranging dialogue about the state of the electric guitar in today’s classical world. Spotlight: Kazuhisa Uchihashi

Kazuhisa Uchihashi is one of the foremost guitar improvisers to come out of Japan. In addition to guitar he plays the daxophone, an instrument devised by Hans Reichel. You can get some of Uchihashi’s early history here.  As you will see from these videos, his wide range of influences, mastery of the E-H 16 Second Delay looper, and passionate proficiency make for an artistic world that transcends the sometimes self-limited boundaries of improvised music.
