A brilliantly witty take on the Beatles classic, with much use of the expression pedal on her Line 6 DL4 delay. This was was part of a double LP Black Friday 2018 release from Verve. The label had a group of young jazz practitioners contribute tracks to a compilation of tunes from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Many of the tracks sound like a return to the jazz of that era, but Halvorson’s voice is entirely of this moment.
I absolutely love Halverson’s version of that song. I like the colors and sounds she uses. And I don’t think she is overrated at the same time I don’t even know what “overrated” is supposed to mean. It seems to be just another way to say “I don’t like it” which to me is a more honest way of putting because it doesn’t imply any kind of objective measures.
I generally like Mary Halvorson’s playing and vision but this just seems kind of irritating, warbly, and out of tune. No thank you.
Take away the pedal sounds it is less than ordinary and not very creative
She is probably the most overrated guitarist out there.
Of course you are entitled to you opinion. I hear some interesting reharmonization under the effects sounds and respect she has invented a personal language on the instrument. I think she captured the whimsey of the original in her own way. That said, I don’t find myself listening to her much. But that is just personal taste.
Nonsense.
You too are entitled to your opinion, but if you differ with Carol, I would prefer you explain why to being dismissive. Just trying to keep the tone here friendly.Thanks.
Luckily she used a pedal! Because WITH the pedal it sounds original and creative;) …
