  1. I stopped using my rack of effects (http://www.flickr.com/photos/veloopity/1918950159/) some years ago – it could do many things but was too heavy, prone to humming problems, and it wasn’t possible to quickly change signal paths and setups. The new setup (http://www.flickr.com/photos/veloopity/4598159982) runs on a Windows laptop and consists of Plogue Bidule (a very versatile software that allows for infinite setups that can be created and modified very easily) plus a cheap Edirol audio interface, plus a KMI Softstep and two Nanokontrols. When I don’t have to travel, I add some effects pedals, but they aren’t essential. I prefer a clean hifi sound over a crunchy amp sound so I play directly into the PA, not into a guitar amp. I’m very happy with this setup and keep finding new possibilities.
