Pioneers

This page is dedicated to the guitarists who, in decades past, advanced the conception of the instrument, some of whom are still pushing the envelope today. It will feature links to rare videos and reprinted articles as well as the occasional tribute feature. Feel free to  recommend the players you feel paved the way when it comes to extending the limits of guitar.

Here is Part 1 of 4 featuring one of the godfathers of experimental improvised guitar, Derek Bailey, fitting flawlessly into Bill Laswell’s Transmutations live at Frankfurt Jazzfestival. 1997

Bill Laswell – bass
Derek Bailey – guitar
DJ Disk – turntablism
Jack DeJohnette – drum
