FutureFret: Episode One is the first event in what Vernon Reid and Chris Buono hope to be an ongoing series. The event is this Saturday, May 14th, 2022 and will include a collective of panel discussions, masterclasses and live performances centered around forward-thinking concepts for the modern guitarist. Here is my interview with Vernon about the idea, its possibilities and many other things. Below that is an introductory video and the details.
The day will begin with a panel featuring a Mount Rushmore of genre-bending guitarists, including Reid, Buono, Oz Noy, Avi Bortnick, and the legendary David Torn. They will discuss and field questions about the technology they use to shape their sound. Additionally, selected FutureFret artists and sponsors will present exclusive deep-dive masterclasses. Later that night FutureFret will host a star-stuffed jam session backed by a monster rhythm section. Attendees will experience exclusive free-form collaborations.
The event takes place in Asbury Park as part of Commotion by the Ocean, presented by the NJ Music Expo. The panel and masterclasses take place at the Berkeley Carteret followed by the FutureFret Jam Session at Wonder Bar.
FutureFret is presented in association with ElmThree Productions. Tickets are available here.
“FutureFret is something Vernon approached me about years ago,” says Buono. “I mentioned the concept to a promoter years later and he came to us this year with an opportunity to bring it to life. This is a test run. the goal is to make this an entity that puts on events a few times a year. After this one on May 14th we’ll be organizing our first multi-day/night event at Bearsville in upstate NY. The goal is to make it a yearly thing.”
