First Guitar Moderne Video Festival

Guitar Moderne is all about the amazing stylistic variety of guitarists practicing their art in the 21rst Century. The zine exists, in large part, to help expose these artists to an audience that might not find them otherwise. In that spirit, here is the Guitar Moderne’s first curated festival of modern guitar. These guitarists offer a wide spectrum of music that employs the instrument in personal and idiosyncratic rather than idiomatic ways. If you like the artists please purchase their recordings and go see them live—Enjoy!

Michael Rother

An innovator from the German experimental scene.

Scott Henderson

An unrepentant fusioneer, Henderson remains a seeker in terms of his tones and techniques. And, two words—Dennis Chambers

Double Naught Spy Car

Big fun from a pair of LA guitarists who mash up jazz, surf, and noise.

Frode Alnaes

A classic Norwegian eclectic, Alnaes’ Rypdal inspired work on ECM records in the Nineties evidenced a unique approach to tone, phrasing and whammy work.

Cornelius

What do you get when minimalism meets pop and funk in a distinctly Japanese way?

Michael Pisaro (the guitarist on the right)

The future of guitar in a classical context?
